Hello Roosevelt,

I’m so excited to be back at it! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Sarah Redmond. I’ve been a part of this amazing community for 16 years! Yep, you read that right, 16 consecutive years here. I’ve been a part of PTA for all but one of those years. It’s been nothing but amazing, and I am so thankful for this place.

Below you will find helpful links, answers to frequently asked questions, and some inspiration to join our school’s mission to give our children an outstanding education.

It has been amazing to see what our community can do together. This amazing community ensures that every child can participate in field trips, attend assemblies, have music class, and express themselves through art!

We’ve created gardens, supported the STEAM Lab, written cookbooks, started an annual cultural festival, and come together as a tight-knit, loving community! We have some exciting things planned for our school's 100th anniversary!

Our parent community here has a huge impact on the quality of education our kids receive. That means you (YOU!) have a huge impact on your child’s education! And with changes to our federal funding, this is more important than ever. PTA is the conduit through which we harness our energy and resources. Together, we can multiply our funds and abilities to create the type of school we want.

What does PTA do?

We are a non-profit organization, and our clients are your children! We fund music classes, art lessons, school assemblies, campus beautification, your children’s school supplies, our STEAM Lab, and Field Trips! We also organize so many amazing events, including The Fall Festival, Harry Potter Night, Spring Festival, the Ofrenda, Spirit Gear, Book Fair, Garden Days, Family Activity Nights, Lunar New Year, Fun Run, Family Movie Night, our amazing yearbook, and Musical Revue!

What do we need from you?

It’s not a lot, we only need 2 things!

1) We need donations to fund the programs we provide for your children.

2) We need volunteers of all abilities and levels of commitment!

How do I DONATE?

Your donations are 100% tax deductible, and 100% goes straight to the school. Our direct donation campaign, called Family Giving, is our main source of fundraising. It is the most effective way for you to contribute financially to our school. Any amount you can give makes a huge difference to your children! Donate here.

How do I VOLUNTEER?

1) Register as a volunteer here. Per BUSD policy, you must be registered if you are going to

volunteer during school hours. You must renew your registration every year. Keep an eye out for information about a BUSD TB Clinic for volunteers.

2) Be on the lookout for volunteering opportunities! Volunteering is a great way to show your child that you care about what’s going on in their world! It’s also fun to get a peek into what their lives are like at school! Opportunities may include volunteering in the classroom, at events, and even from your couch! However you want to give your time, we have a role for you! Keep your eye out for emails from your room parent, Mr. O, or your teacher! We will also post signups on the Friends of Roosevelt Facebook Page!

How do I join PTA?

Do you want to make amazing friends and vote at our meetings and have so much fun all while

making the school a better place? Then come be a member! All are welcome!

● It’s $10 total to join. Join here.

● You may volunteer and come to the PTA meetings even if you aren’t a member- you just can’t vote. Becoming a member is an easy way to amplify our advocacy by increasing our numbers! You can become a member and never attend a single meeting, but they are certainly fun and usually have treats. We also have them available on Zoom in case you are unable to attend in person.

Where do I get more information?

A great place to start is our first PTA meeting.  Mr. O's weekly email announces upcoming PTA meetings. Also, it is my pleasure to invite you to The Boohoo Woohoo- a meet and greet right after drop off on the first day of school on Wednesday, August 13th! We will have treats, coffee, and information! Whether you're boo-hooing or woo-hooing on the first day of school, come hang with us! Back to School Night is Thursday, August 28th. Meet with your child’s teacher, get your TB form filled out, ask any questions you have at our PTA table, see samples of our Spirit Gear! The Friends of Roosevelt Facebook Page is a wealth of information. Here you will find

connections with other parents as well as up-to-date details about events, our community, and how to be involved at the school!

The school’s website is also an easy source to find teacher contact info, our school calendar, and upcoming events! https://www.burbankusd.org/tres. To find all the links above and so much more, go to our PTA website! My favorite spot on the website is the “I’m New” page, where you can learn how to get started at Roosevelt if this is your first year with us. (Hi, Newcomers! We are glad you’re here!)

This is going to be an amazing year, I can feel it! Together we can provide our kids with a safe place to learn about others and to be cherished for the unique individuals they are. You can make a significant impact in their lives by lending a hand, even if it's just a little. Don’t forget what our children learned in kindergarten: I am only one. I can’t do everything, but I can do something. I can make a difference.

I’m so excited to see all the amazing things we will do this year!
